SAO PAULO (WiMAX Day). The National Agency of Telecommunications (Anatel) in Brazil yesterday confirmed that the auction of 3.5 GHz licenses will proceed on 14 September 2006 as planned. There was some doubt about the auction several weeks ago when the Minister of Communication tried to block the auction. Insiders report that the Minister was acting on behalf Abrafix, the association of fixed-line operations, including Brasil Telecom, who wanted to block the auction. The deadline for bids is now 4 September, and the minimum bid for the 3.5 GHz is US$1.98 million.
