MobiTV demos live high definition television over WiMAX network

LOS ANGELES (Press Release). MobiTV, Inc., the global leader in mobile and broadband television and music services, today announced it will offer attendees of the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment show demonstrations of live High-Definition television delivered over a pre-mobile WiMAX network. The real-time demonstration will showcase the MobiTV® service running over Navini’s Ripwave MX equipment to both fixed and mobile customer premises equipment. This will provide attendees with a preview of several ‘Proof of Concepts’ planned for later this year.

“This is a critical time in the evolution of television and we are steadfast in our commitment to back the best standards for our partners and consumers alike,” said Dr. Phillip Alvelda, CEO, chairman and co-founder of MobiTV. “In a few short weeks we have announced our official support for the WiMAX standard, been invited to join the WiMAX Forum as a contributing member to their mobile applications initiatives, and now will demonstrate live HD TV running over a WiMAX network. WiMAX is real and we’re committed to ensuring its success as a global standard.”

“Personal broadband is about bringing the freedom of wireless to broadband, and Navini has the most commercial experience in delivering personal broadband,” said Sai Subramanian, Navini’s vice president of product management and strategic marketing. “Consumers are demanding new applications like MobiTV and VoIP, and Navini’s pre-mobile WiMAX platforms commercially support mobile applications initiatives today and offer an over-the-air upgrade to the mobile WiMAX standard.”

WiMAX and mobile WiMAX are the latest extensions to MobiTV’s portfolio of supported network technologies, with features designed to support all of the key components that make mobile television viable to consumers and carriers alike.
