LONDON (WiMAX Day). According to a new report from RNCO, the the WiMAX equipment market climbed to $68.3 million in the first quarter of 2006, and is forecast to expand to over $2 billion by 2009. The report does not quantify what drivers will explode the revenues for equipment manufacturers. Presently, the WiMAX industry is pressuring manufacturers for early release of WiMAX certified products into the market. Many manufacturers are focused on the development of products for 802.16e, the mobile WiMAX standard. The industry also requires solutions to deal with the needs of their present fixed networks, as well as future mobile networks. The roadmap for the majority of WiMAX equipment manufacturers is beginning to accelerate. In order for manufacturers to meet market demand, they must now significantly increase their product development in line with the requirements of WiMAX spectrum owners, which may demand an accelerated process for product certification. The same report has forecast global WiMAX users will reach 14.9 million by 2009, which will be easily surpassed if manufacturers increase their product development efforts to meet the growing demand for WiMAX.
