Successful tests for Stockholm WiMAX

STOCKHOLM (WiMAX Day). Since May of this year, the Stockholm city-owned company Stokab AB has been testing the roll-out of a WiMAX network in three areas in the west of Stockholm. The “Digitial City” project began with the intention to cover the city of Stockholm with WiMAX in an effort to provide broadband Internet access to any company or person who otherwise could not connect using the fibre network that covers the city. The areas of Stockholm Bromma, Vällingby and Hässelby have proved successful in tests using connections through the 3.5 GHz spectrum licensed to Stokab in 2003. In partnership with Intel and Ericsson, with equipment supplied through Norwegian integrator Nera ASA, Stokab now intends to extend the tests into a roll-out across Stockholm and to other areas in Sweden. Stokab CEO Staffan Lundgren stated today that these efforts will put his company and Stockholm on “the world’s IT map”.
