Rural WiMAX pilot launches in Vietnam

HANOI (WiMAX Day). According to Intel in Vietnam, a new pilot will begin this month to launch WiMAX services in Vietnam. The pilot is named VietNamNet Bridge and will begin in the northern Lao Cai province. Presently there is no access to broadband Internet in the province, which is a remote and mountainous region of Vietnam. A base station and nearly 20 hot spots will be installed in many places in Lao Cai province such as schools, clinics, post offices, Internet cafes, hotels, and offices. Vu Hoang Lien, director of the Vietnam Data Communication Company, has stated that the success of the project is the first step toward completing a licence for the WiMAX service.
