LJUBLJANA (WiMAX Day). The Agency for Post and Electronic Communications (APEK) in Slovenia last week announced that the national telco operator Telekom Slovenije and a Ljubljana-based telecommunications company Tok telekomunikacije have been awarded 10-year licences to operate broadband wireless services. The licenses awarded are in the 3.4–3.6 GHz spectrum range. According to the terms of the licenses, the bidders are required to deploy their network to reach 60% of the Slovenian population within three years, and at least one-third of the access points must reach rural areas. It was reported that Telekom Slovenije paid approximately US$ 526,000 for their license, and Tok telekomunikacije paid US$ 210,000 for its license.
