PARIS (WiMAX Day). Altitude Telecom in France have announced that they are near completion of first WiMAX network in l’Eure region of France, less than one hour from Paris. Altitude obtained its licenses for 3.5 GHz spectrum in July this year. In l’Eure region Altitude has installed 24 WiMAX base stations, each of which has a range of 20 km, and the network is already planned for an upgrade where base stations can deliver a range of 50 km in direct line of site of the transmitter, with download speeds of 70 Mbit/s. Altitude is using WiMAX to fill in their network where they do not already serve customers with DSL.
