Four WiMAX licenses in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR (WiMAX Day). In Malaysia yesterday, Energy, Water and Communications Minister Dr Lim Keng Yaik announced that after long delay since the cancelled auction of 2.3 GHz spectrum licenses in July, the government will make “up to four licenses available” for companies to offer WiMAX services. Dr Lim Keng Yaik told reporters yesterday in Kuala Lumpur that “I may roll out two licences first, not necessary I have to give out all four.” The selection of the license winners will be done through a “beauty contest,” and decision is expected “is expected by the end of this month.” Dr Lim Keng Yaik emphasised that his prority in awarding licenses will be to operators who can roll-out services throughout Malaysia with “the highest speed at the lowest price.”
