AUKLAND (WiMAX Day). Slingshot, the residential services brand of CallPlus in New Zealand, announced that it will launch a WiMAX network in Whangarei, in the North of New Zealand.
Sporting the brand name “MAX”, Slingshot reportedly invested NZ $3 million to develop the network. Slingshot is using BreezeMAX equipment from Alvarion for the network, which is supplied locally by Siemens New Zealand.
The service operates in the 3.5 GHz spectrum and provides speeds of up to 10Mbit/s in both directions, for customers within two kilometres of the base station.
CallPlus is New Zealand’s third largest full service telecommunications company. Slingshot/Callplus obtained its 3.5 GHz frequency spectrum in the Greater Auckland area from the Ministry of Economic Development this year, but has yet to announce if it intends to extend the service in other areas in New Zealand.
