Will BT bid for WiMAX licenses?

LONDON (WiMAX Day). According to an Unstrung report, several sources have indicated that BT, the UK incumbent telco, will soon become a player in the UK WiMAX market. BT already offers a combined Wi-Fi and mobile package, and also has been testing WiMAX services in northern Ireland since last year, with proprietary equipment from Alvarion, and in Birmingham with equipment from Navini. Sources indicate that BT is likely to be a bidder in the Ofcom auction for 2.5 GHz spectrum in the UK, which may begin at the end of this year or in early 2007.
