DUBAI (WiMAX Day). du, the start-up GSM competitor to Etisalat in the United Arab Emirates, has announced that it is testing WiMAX in field trials, and intends to launch a network before the end of this year. According to a report in Gulf News, du is currently working with several different vendors of WiMAX equipment. Commenting on a WiMAX service in UAE, Osman Sultan, CEO of du, stated that WiMAX is ideal for clients that require high-speed voice and data: “It’s probably safe to say however that WiMAX will be used for customers with specific communications needs in both business and consumer sectors, plus it will suit different geographical areas in the UAE.”
