BRISTOL (WiMAX Day). Baseband chip manufacturer Icera has received a $20 million investment from 3i as an extension to its recent series C funding round, which now totals $60 million. Other investors include Benchmark Capital Europe, Atlas Venture, Accel Partners and Amadeus Capital Partners. Icera provides baseband chips and software for mobile phones and datacards. Icera’s first wireless soft modem chipset, Livanto and Adaptive Wireless software, launched in November 2005, was designed to support HSDPA, UMTS, GSM and EDGE multimode capability. Isera intends that its Livanto wireless soft modem soon will be developed to support integration with WiMAX, and which can be consolidated on a single, flexible baseband processor. Icera software now in place on 3G mobile phones enables consumers to download large email files with attachments, access web pages and download music tracks to media players over the air in seconds.
