SEOUL (WiMAX Day). Samsung Electronics Co and TVA Sistema de Televisao S.A. of Brazil signed an agreement last week to commercialise a mobile WiMAX platform in the city of Curitiba. In a statement issued yesterday from Samsung, TVA plans to begin the commercialisation of mobile WiMAX in Curitiba in the south of Brazil next year, and then extend services to other Brazilian cities. Samsung has contracted to supply base stations, system hardware and modems, and in the near future will provide PCMCIA cards and terminals for service portability. In the Samsung press release, Kwansoo Lee, Executive Vice President of Telecommunication Systems Division, Samsung Electronics explained “Samsung is very excited for the debut of our next generation technology in Latin America. TVA’s initiative to bring Mobile WiMAX commercial is an important step to the globalization of this newest technology.” Virgilio Amaral, Technology & Strategy Director of TVA, further added, “WiMAX will revolutionize broadband as it changes the service’s consumption habits, incorporating portability into the personal broadband concept”.
