BONN (WiMAX Day). The Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) in Germany announced today that they received applications from six companies for the auction of 3.4 to 3.6 GHz spectrum licenses in December. Among those companies, who were not named by the Bundesnetzagentur, three applied for licenses in the entire Federal Republic of Germany, and another three companies applied for licenses in specific regions. It is expected that DBD Deutsche Breitband Dienste GmbH is one of the the three companies that applied for a national license. The Bundesnetzagentur will now study the qualifications of companies that made of the applications and will approve bidders in early December. According to a press release issued by the Bundesnetzagentur today, the purpose of allocating more spectrum is to add “more competition in the market of broadband connections.” The December auction will follow an auction in August that was aborted due to over-subscription. That auction had approximately 100 approved bidders that were drawn from 1,221 applicants.
