KUALA LUMPUR (WiMAX Day). The Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik yesterday announced that three licenses for 2.3 Ghz spectrum will be awarded to companies that have the capability to deploy WiMAX on a national scale. The spectrum auction has faced several delays, and Dr Lim announced yesterday, “We hope that the tendering exercise will be completed by the middle of next year, and to start work by the end of the year.” He further stated that the cost of deploying a WiMAX network throughout all of Malaysia will cost more than the $165 million originally estimated. Malaysia has reportedly secured a loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation to help fund the project.
