DUBAI (WiMAX Day). In a report in Gulf News today, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in the United Arab Emirates acknowledged that GSM operator Etisalat has been testing WiMAX. Sandeep Saihgal, general manager for Telecommunications Division-Mena at Samsung, told Gulf News that Samsung has “successfully tested the WiMAX roll out for the UAE recently,” and further added that Etisalat intends to launch its WiMAX service in the first half of 2007. The second GSM operator in UAE, named “du”, has itself previously announced that it is testing WiMAX with Motorola and intends to launch services in early 2007.
