Brazil auction postponed till 2007

SÃO PAULO (WiMAX Day). The federal accounts court in Brazil has postponed until January 2007 the vote on whether the telecoms regulator Anatel can acution spectrum for WiMAX licenses. For more than six months, Anatel has been trying to auction licenses for 3.5 GHz spectrum, but government delays and legal injunctions continue to stymie the process. In September the courts ordered a halt to the auction because of disputes surrounding the exchange rate used to calculate prices. The court was to vote on a new date for the auction this month, however legal disputes from fixed-line operators excluded from the auction continue to derail this process.
