Batelco wins 3.5 GHz license in Jordan

AMMAN (WiMAX Day). The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) in Jordan announced today that Bahraini telco operator Batelco has won a license for 3.5 GHz spectrum. In a sealed bid auction, Batelco won with a bid of $11.5 million. Through its local subsidiary, GSM servies provider Umniah, Batelco is a dominant player in the telecoms market in Jordan. Batelco chief executive Peter Kaliaropoulos announced that “Our acquisition of the FBWA licence in Jordan is another milestone to achieving profitable growth. It gives us the ability to further extend superior service to six million people in Jordan and allows us to improve economies of scale in our mobile business.” Fourteen companies had bid for the spectrum license, including ATCO Clearwire and MTC-Vodafone.
