BOGOTÁ (WiMAX Day). A recent report by Argentine research firm Signals Telecom Consulting suggests that the massive Mexican telco operator Telmex may be on the prowl to acquire a qualified WiMAX operator in Columbia. Telmex wants to be the dominant WiMAX operator in the region, but lacks operations in Columbia. Earlier this month Telmex finalised the acquisition of two cable companies in Columbia: TV Cable and Cable Pacifico. However, neither company is believed to have qualified for the upcoming auction of 3.5 GHz spectrum in Columbia. The likely contenders for 3.5 GHz licenses include telco operator Emcali and Cable Union of the West.
