ATCO Clearwire sues TRA in Bahrain

MANAMA (WiMAX Day). ATCO Clearwire Telecom has filed a lawsuit in Bahrain against the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). Last month ATCO was a bidder in the auction of 3.5 GHz licenses. Licenses were awarded to the highest bidders MTC-Vodafone Bahrain and Mena Telecom. According to a report by CommsMEA, ACTO has alleged that the two winning bidders did not make valid financial bids, thus not adhering to the requirements of the tender process, as outlined by the TRA. CommsMEA quoted a statement from ATCO that stated the rules of the tender process “are clear and precise and apply a strict standard for qualifying a bid as a valid financial bid; a bidder either meets all of the requirements, or does not at all. ACT has met with and written to the TRA requesting it to reconsider its decision. The TRA has refused. Therefore, ACT states that it has no other option but to pursue legal action.” ATCO Clearwire Telecom is based in Saudi Arabia and owned by Clearwire International LLC and A.A. Turki Group, itself owned by Sheikh Abdulrahman Ali Al-Turki of Saudi Arabia.
