AMMAN (WiMAX Day). In Jordan the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) announced this week that in addition to the license that was granted to Batelco for 3.5 GHz, the TRC has awarded a license for Fixed Broadband Wireless Access (FBWA) to ATCO Clearwire in the 3.6 GHz frequency. According to a press release issued by the TRC, ATCO made a winning bid of JD 5.5 million ($7.7 million USD). Both the 3.5 and 3.6 GHz frequencies were auctioned in lots of 28 Mhz each for the area in and around Amman, the capital city, and 14 Mhz in areas outside of Amman. A second round of auctions is intended to occur in six months that will assign the same amount of spectrum.
