Final stage of 3.5 GHz consult in Egypt

CAIRO (WiMAX Day). The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NRTA) in Egypt has announced that the final phase of the consultation process of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) regulation will be held on January 24th. On this date, representatives of the NTRA will discuss the consultation process and analyse the replies received to date. The consultation process is being conducted in preparation for the issuance of licenses to 3.5 GHz frequencies later this year. The NTRA has thus far received 23 responses to the consultation. Separately, at a seminar in Cairo yesterday hosted by Motorola and GSM operator Mobinil, Noel Kirkaldy, a spokesman for Motorola, told The Daily Star Egypt newspaper that he expected WiMAX will be available in Egypt within 2007. Both Mobinil and Motorola participated in the consultation first and second phase of the NTRA consultation process.
