AUCKLAND (WiMAX Day). The government in New Zealand has yet to make a decision on the re-allocation and auction of 2.3 GHz spectrum, which it announced November. This controversial decision was made to split current spectrum into three bands of 30 Mhz after 2010, despite the fact that companies such as Woosh Wireless that license the spectrum should have rights that extend past their renewal in 2010. According to a report today in the Australian Associated Press, Woosh and other holders of 2.3 GHz spectrum are awaiting a decision from the communications ministry. However, Woosh has already invested millions of dollars in acquiring usage rights to the spectrum, and that may be lost as a result of a government auction.
