SÃO PAULO (WiMAX Day). The Brazilian WiMAX network operator Neovia announced plans for the expansion of its network in São Paulo. According to a report in BNAmericas, the expansion will add 3,000 WiMAX-certified base stations supplied by Alvarion, with a total investment of $15 million. Neovia has offered pre-WiMAX services since it was founded with an investment from Intel Capital several years ago. Neovia operates its network using 3.5 GHz spectrum it obtained in 2002, and is presently the only active WiMAX operator in Brazil, despite significant plans from larger competitors such as Embratel, TVA Sistema de Televisao SA and Brasil Telecom.
