SANTA CLARA (WiMAX Day). WiMAX chipset manufacturer Beceem Communications announced yesterday that it has raised more than $40 million in a Series-D round of financing.
A statement made by Beceem said that all of the company’s existing investors participated in the Series-D, including Global Catalyst Partners, Intel Capital, Khosla Ventures, KTB Ventures, Mitsui & Co. Technology Investment Group, NEC Corporation, DoCoMo Capital, Samsung Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Teachers’ Private Capital, and Walden International. A new strategic investor to the group is NEC Corporation.
With the pressure on networks and manufacturers alike to deliver services to market as quickly as possible, it is likely that more WiMAX chipset providers will find investment, as chipsets are the key components that connect users’ CPEs and hand-held devices to networks.
