TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). The chairman of Chunghwa Telecom, Ho Chen Tan, said yesterday that the Taiwanese company would bid for one of six spectrum licenses to be awarded in June.
According to a report in Dow Jones, Ho Chen said, “We want both to learn more about WiMAX with regard to fixed-mobile convergence and to complement our operations.” Earlier this month, Chunghwa also announced that it intends to work with equipment vendor Alvarion to deploy its network in Taiwan.
Chunghwa Telecom is the largest integrated telecom provider in Taiwan, offering GSM, fixed-line, Internet and broadband services. As of January 2007, the company had 13 million fixed-line subscribers, 8.4 million GSM subscribers, and 3.8 million DSL subscribers.
