LAS VEGAS (WiMAX Day). At the Goldman Sachs 2007 technology investment symposium last week, Motorola CEO Ed Zander summarised Motorola’s WiMAX strategy and product portfolio, “I love all that.” Zander told conference attendees that Motorola “has thrown ALL resources into WiMAX… and that’s going great.” He said that Motorola is involved in 22 WiMAX projects around the world. From work with Clearwire and Sprint, to trials in Japan, Pakistan and India where they’re making phone calls and downloading videos, Zander said that he expects Motorola will be one of the leading WiMAX equipment vendors in the short-term. Motorola is investing heavily in product development, and Zander expects to see profits from WiMAX starting in 2008. He also expects that enterprise products will be “a very big business” for WiMAX. With “the days of Internet connections tethered to a wall” soon to disappear, Zander said he wants Motorola to dominate WiMAX.
