Algérie Télécom plan WiMAX launch

ALGIERS (WiMAX Day). The daily newspaper Oran has reported that Algérie Télécom will launch WiMAX services in the cities of Algiers, Boumerdes and Blida. Following this initial launch, the network will be expanded at the end of 2007 to include the cities of Oran, Annaba, Constantine and Ouargla. The chairman of Algérie Télécom, Slimane Kheireddine, told the Algérie Press Service that thanks to WiMAX, “Internet users will be able to receive not only telephony, but also broadband Internet at competitive prices.”

Kheireddine also noted that the primary objective of launching WiMAX would be to improve Internet access throughout the country, and to improve the gaps present in the broadband services in Algeria.
