First official WiMAX trial in China

BEIJING (WiMAX Day). The first official WiMAX network will be built in the Tanggu Technology Development Zone in the city of Tianjin. Song Junde, a professor from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, announced this development during the 2007 Asian WiMAX conference. Junde said that the network will be deployed in agreement between the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and the Municipality of Tianjin.

A report by China Tech News noted that according to Yu Zhicheng, director of the Communications Information Research Institute of the MII, the “network will be started from the Binhai New District and then gradually expanded to the entire city.” He also said that the WiMAX network in Tianjin “is a trial led by the government and it is intended to provide general service to the public.”
