MILAN (WiMAX Day). The Italian Communications Authority (Agcom) announced that it has approved the procedures by which it will auction licenses for WiMAX spectrum next month. The licenses will be offered in three lots based on different regions of Italy, and will be awarded to the highest bidders. The first two lots will include licenses up to a maximum of four regions. In the interest of promoting competition, Agcom noted that the third lot would be reserved for companies that do not already own licenses for wireless or mobile services, and focussed on local services.
