WiMAX telecentre in Romania

BUCHAREST (WiMAX Day). In Romania, new government-sponsored rural telecentres have been launched using WiMAX technology, according to a report in TeleGeography. The telecentres have been installed by network operator Orange, which owns a national license for 3.5 GHz spectrum. The project is also supported by Intel, and will deliver telephony and Internet access to a reported 600 communities. Some 168 telecentres have been opened to date, with another 163 still to be installed.
