SANTIAGO (WiMAX Day). The under secretary of telecommunications in Chile, Pablo Bello, announced that the issuance of new spectrum licenses for WiMAX in Chile will be delayed until 2008, according to a report in El Mercurio. Mr Bello noted that due to a recent change in ministers, all telecommunications matters would need to be re-examined. Bello said “the market is more and more competitive, which is evident in the development of the WiMAX networks.” He noted that there is sufficient spectrum available to be allotted to existing market players, including Entel, Telmex and VTR, however changes in regulations might not permit a new operator to take a license.
