TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). The National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan awarded six licenses today for WiMAX spectrum in the 2.5 ~ 2.69 frequency range. The three companies awarded spectrum licenses in northern Taiwan are First International Telecom, Tecom-VIBO and Global On, and in the south of Taiwan, licenses were awarded to Far EasTone Telecommunications, Vastar Cable and Tatung. No license was awarded to Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecommunications operator, nor to Taiwan Mobile, the third largest telecoms operator.
