BEIJING (WiMAX Day). According to several sources, the Bejing Olympic Committee (BOC) has authorised China Mobile to provide WiMAX services during the Olympic Games in 2008.
This has been a hotly contested issue, with numerous companies and technologies competing for the right to provide WiMAX services. Telecoms giant China Netcom is also a sponsor of the Beijing Olympics and authorities said that the company will need to surrender its right to provide WiMAX to China Mobile, and China Netcom will have the right to supply only WiFi services.
China Mobile already has been testing WiMAX services in Bejing and Qingdao.
