Job Description:

The role is part of the Strategic Planning team within the ATG Product Development organization which is responsible for setting the product roadmap(s), defining features, pricing and margin targets, revenue planning & unit forecasting (with Ops & Sales & Finance), product positioning, marketing communications, competitive analysis, sales training, and applications engineering support for new design wins, and customer engineering support.

Strategic Planning is responsible for developing business cases that support the justification for approval of the ATG product roadmap. The Strategic Planning team develops all the market forecasts and works closely with ATG executive leadership, Product Management and Marketing to define product strategies that include target market segments, product positioning within these segments, price-points, sales strategies, and a compelling value proposition. The business case analysis requires extensive market research and pro-forma scenario modeling, and helps the product management team develop a deep understanding of the WiMAX market environment and competitive landscape.

Strategic Planning is responsible for maintaining the network traffic model used to model network loading for various services deployed on the NextWave network. Economic models are then generated from traffic modeling scenarios.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performing market research for service and product TAM/SAM/SOM analysis.
  • Developing product & subscriber unit forecasts based upon the TAM/SAM/SOM.
  • Maintaining the traffic model with current scenarios that reflect actual services and devices operating on the NextWave network.
  • Researching new applications and business models in the mobile operator market.
  • Updating corporate presentation with current market information as necessary.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive intelligence gathering and analysis.
  • Support product marketing plans by supplying competitive intelligence and competitor analyses to product management teams.
  • Create and manage business intelligence information/knowledge sharing systems.
  • Present competitive research at internal meetings throughout the company.
  • Work with business leaders to identify, monitor and analyze market issues and trends that represent opportunities or risks for inclusion in the environmental assessment and competitive analyses.
  • This position requires extensive work at a computer terminal which comprises approximately all the time spent not traveling.
  • This position may require contact with overseas vendors in evenings after 6pm (ie, Asia), early mornings before 6am (Europe), or middle of the night (ie, India).

Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related wireless telecommunications field with a minimumof 4 years professional experience.
  • Must have Market Research experience in telecommunications or semiconductor industry including experience managing research vendors/consultants.
  • Must be knowledgeable in basic communications architectures including base station and subscriber station devices for cellular applications.
  • Must be knowledgeable of basic communications theory that may include CDMA, GSM, Wi-Fi, WiMAX or Bluetooth.
  • Must be a highly motivated, flexible, and self-directed individual.
  • Must be able to work independently, making appropriate decisions, and driving the company agenda with vendors, partners and customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Business maturity and ability to interact with all levels.
  • Must be comfortable in a highly dynamic start-up environment.

Preferred Skills or Work Experience:

  • Experience with primary and secondary market research in telecommunications and semiconductor industries.
  • Experience with market research or consulting organization highly desirable.
