Acca and NTT DoCoMo agree to $620m WiMAX JV

TOKYO (WiMAX Day). The Japanese broadband provider ACCCA Networks and telecoms behemoth NTT DoCoMo announced that they will form a joint venture company that will bid for WiMAX spectrum licenses in Japan later this year. According to a report in <em>Kyodo News</em>, the venture will be capitalised at ¥ 72 billion, of which ACCA Networks is expected to invest ¥ 30 billion for a 45% stake. DoCoMo will invest 19 billion Yen and hold a 29 percent share of the joint venture company. DoCoMo and ACCA are not alone in the joint venture. They will be joined by Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc, Mitsui & Co and East Japan Railway Co. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is scheduled to begin accepting applications for WiMAX spectrum licenses beginning September 10th. The Ministry has stated that it will only award two licenses.
