Far Eastone plans WiMAX roll-out

TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). The Taiwanese telecoms operator Far Eastone Communications announced today that it will roll-out commercial services for WiMAX in Taiwan at the end of 2008 and early 2009. The company was amongst six others that were awarded licenses for WiMAX in Taiwan. The president of Far Eastone told reporters at a press conference yesterday that the company “is in the trial and testing phase right now.” Nilsson reported that Far Eastone will invest T$10 billion (US$300 million) for its WiMAX deployment in all of Taiwan. Far Eastone has a license for only the southern region of Taiwan, but will collaborate with another license holder to deploy WiMAX in the northern region of Taiwan.
