SYDNEY (WiMAX Day). It has been rumoured that the Australian telecoms group Optus may make a rival bid for Unwired that will top Seven Networks offer of AUD 127 million. A report in the Sydney Morning Herald said that Optus also has been in discussion with the pay TV operator Austar United Communications Ltd about acquiring its spectrum, which lies outside the main cities in Australia and is used by Unwired. Numerous reports also speculated that Seven Networks may seek to acquire Austar’s spectrum. These reports caused Austar shares to leap to AUD$ 1.70 from $1.55 on Friday.
