TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). Tatung, the largest electronics company in Taiwan, announced that its subsidiary Tatung Telecom plans to launch its WiMAX network in late 2008. Tatung Telecom was awarded a license for WiMAX spectrum in July 2006 that covers the southern region of Taiwan. According to a report in DiGiTimes, Tatung Telecom will establish an R&D centre for WiMAX in the Southern Taiwan Science Park. The report also noted that Tatung Telecom is presently discussing equipment procurement with Nortel Networks, Motorola, NEC and Alcatel-Lucent, and the company intends to select a supplier by the end of 2007.
