MILAN (WiMAX Day). The Ministry of Communications in Italy announced yesterday that it has completed the “legal and formal implementation documents” that will allow the commencement of the auction of 3.5 GHz spectrum. At a press conference, Minister Paolo Gentiloni explained that part of the delay in launching the auction has been the completion of documentation that transfers the legal title of the spectrum from the Defense Ministry (which previously administered the spectrum) to the Ministry of Communications. The undersecretary to the Ministry of Communications, Luigi Vimercati, suggested that the auction might begin as early as next week.
