STANLEY (WiMAX Day). The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) and Cable and Wireless South Atlantic Ltd have reached an agreement to upgrade the telephone network on the wind-swept Falkland Islands in the south Atlantic, off the coast of Argentina. According to a government report, the upgraded service will be available in 2009, and it will use WiMAX technology for broadband access. The report noted that FIG will contribute £823,000 to the project, and C&W will invest £1.3 million.
