WiMAX heads East to Siberia

MOSCOW (WiMAX Day). According to a report in Kommersant, the Russian company Transtelecom (TTK) intends to launch a WiMAX network in Far East Russia and Siberia over the next four years. The company said that it has already received licenses for spectrum in these areas. The report notes that TTK will focus on triple play services, telephone, Internet and TV. TTK was created in 1997 and is owned by JCS “Russian Railways” (OAO RZD). TTK has built a fibre-optic netowkr in Russia that stretches over 50,000 kilometres, passing through 11 times zones and 71 regions of Russia.
