TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). The The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) in Taiwan announced that it agreed with some of the top WiMAX companies in the world that they would work to bring additional WiMAX investments to Taiwan. Alcatel-lucent, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), Sprint Nextel, and Starent Networks each signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to this effect with the Ministry. The intent of the agreements will be for these companies to purchase more WiMAX equipment and components from Taiwan, as well as for the joint development of WiMAX equipment and solutions. Steve Jui-tung Chen, the Minister of Economic Affairs, said “A total of NT$21.8 billion has been invested in WiMAX in Taiwan in the past three years, marking the second largest WiMAX investment worldwide.” Chen said he expects WiMAX investments will inrease to NT$128 billion (US$3.9 billion) by 2009.
