BIEL-BIENNE (WiMAX Day). The Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) in Switzerland announced that it will issue  licenses for 3.6 GHz WiMAX spectrum on a regional level. OFCOM has already auctioned national licenses in the 3400 ~ 3600 MHz frequencies to Cablecom, Swisscom Mobile and Inquam Broadband GmbH. The regional licenses will be offered with a total bandwidth of 2×7 MHz in total for each license. The licenses will permit the any successful applicant to provide fixed or nomadic WiMAX services on a regional basis.
