OTTAWA (WiMAX Day). Orascom Telecom has chosen wireless network supplier DragonWave for 270 wireless backhaul links for the new WiMAX network to run nationwide in Pakistan. The goal is to provide residents and business users in cities across Pakistan with an affordable and portable broadband service. The undertaking is in concert with mobile operator, Mobilink, a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom. Initial rollout is planned for the three major centres of Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore.
DragonWave’s solution is providing high capacity IP backhaul as a fiber replacement. The choice is largely based on its being viewed as an economical and efficient way to provide full coverage across the country. The new network will provide data and VoIP applications for enterprise, government, residential and municipality users.
