TOKYO (WiMAX Day). Japan is likely to grant licenses to supply high-speed Wireless Internet access to mobile phone operators KDDI and PHS (personal handy phone system) operator Willcom, according to a report from the Nikkei. KDDI, however, had no comment over the bidding wars, saying it was too soon in the application process to celebrate. KDDI and Willcom are competing over licenses for two 2.5 GHz band frequencies allowing WiMAX connections with mobile carriers NTT DoCoMo and Softbank.
