KUALA LUMPUR (WiMAX Day). The Malaysian GSM network provider DiGi, a subsidiary of the Norwegian telecoms group Telenor, announced an alliance with Time dotCom Berhad (TdC) that it will involve the acquisition of a 3G license owned by TdC for the issuance of 27.5 million new DiGi shares.
TdC is one of three companies in Malaysia that owns a license for 3G services, as well as a license for 2.3 GHz WiMAX spectrum. DiGi does not have licenses for either spectrum.
According to a prepared statement by TdC chairman Dato’ Wan Muhamad Wan Ibrahim, the companies will share services and expertise, with focus on providing better mobile broadband services to their consumers through WiMAX and traditional 3G services.
