TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). Global Mobile, the Taiwanese venture fund and WiMAX spectrum owner, announced that it has signed a letter of intent with the Open Wireless Network (OpenWin) of Japan to cooperate on WiMAX services, content and roaming.
The OpenWin partners include Softbank, eAccess and Goldman Sachs, amongst others. According to Rosemary Ho, chairwoman of Global Mobile, the cooperation with OpenWin also may include an equity participation in Global Mobile.
However any such cooperation depends upon the success of OpenWin in securing a WiMAX license in Japan, which is hotly contested.
A report in the China Times yesterday said that Chairwoman Ho hosted a luncheon last week as part of a fund-raising effort for Global Mobile. The company is trying to raise approximately US$150 million for its WiMAX network and other related investments.
