TAIPEI (WiMAX Day). At the 35th East Asia Economic Conference in Taiwan last week, economic ministers and business executives agreed that their respective industries should forge stronger ties to develop WiMAX technology. All trade between the two countries amounted to more than US$62.5 billion last year, said Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian at the opening ceremony of the conference. Taiwan Commission chairman Jeffrey Koo noted that while NEC and Fujitsu have both already committed to joint development programs of WiMAX technology, there remain far more opportunities for cooperation in WiMAX. Koo said that Sony Corporation is soon to announce a joint development program for WiMAX in Taiwan, and that others will follow.
