KUALA LUMPUR (WiMAX Day). A report in Bernama said that the government in Malaysia will urge a focus on the use of 2.3 GHz spectrum for use with WiMAX. Malaysia also has issued several licenses for 2.5 GHz, however the Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik told reporters today the country “cannot have both spectrums at the same time because the costs to set up the bases are expensive… Some of the companies, like Telekom Malaysia Bhd, are still using the 2.5 GHz spectrum and that is why we have to monitor the development. We might consider bringing back the 2.5 GHz later.”
